Improving the performance and value of wood

The WPA is a technical and advisory organisation dedicated to improving the performance of wood as the sustainable construction material of choice.

Most timber used in the UK is a plantation-grown softwood; these lack sufficient natural durablility for many construction applications. However, with correct treatment, they will deliver the required service in any application - indoors and out.

WPA specialises in the following areas

  • Wood selection for different end uses
  • Specificationof preservative treatments
  • Specification of modified woods
  • Specification of flame retardant treatments
  • Coatings for external wood
  • The Standards and Regulations covering wood protection
