American Wood Protection Association (USA)
The American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) is a non-profit
organization which is responsible for promulgating voluntary wood
preservation standards. AWPA Standards are developed by its
technical committees in an open, consensus-based process that
involves individuals from all facets of wood preservation: Producers
of preservatives and preservative components; producers of treated
and untreated wood products; end users of treated wood; engineers,
architects and building code officials; government entities,
academia, and other groups with a general interest in wood
preservation. AWPA's Standards are universally specified for wood
preservation in the USA, and are recognized worldwide.

BRE
BRE is now a private organisation but grew out of the Building
Research Establishment which, as a government department,

British Woodworking Federation
The British Woodworking Federation (BWF) is recognised as the

CTBA (France)
The Wood and Furniture Technical Centre (Centre Technique du
Bois et de l'Ameublement ) was created in 1952 for and at the
instigation of professionals. CTBA offers support for wood and

VHN (Dutch Wood Preservers Association)
The VHN is the association of Dutch companies in the wood
treatment business. Members are mainly companies applying CPI
(chemical pressure impregnation) and suppliers of preservatives.
Nevertheless the association is open for companies using methods
like dip treatment, TMT (thermally modified timber) and CMT
(chemically modified timber). For dip, TMT and CMT, we require
production and product to fulfill quality standards comparable to
CPI. This is necessary as VHN promotes the production and use of
quality products that meet the expectations of the end user in terms
