WPA Conference 2016 : Making the Most of Wood
WPA CONFERENCE 2016 - MAKING THE MOST OF WOOD
Places still available for the Annual WPA Awards Dinner on 6 April and at the Conference on 7 April
Venue: Marriott Breadsall Priory Hotel, Derby
The WPA 2016 Conference highlights the essential role that wood protection has to play in helping society make the most of wood. Specifiers want to be able to keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use before recovery and re-use or regeneration at the end of service life. Conference gets underway with some expert guest speakers on this theme.
Sustainability consultant Charlie Law will explain how the use of quality pre-treated wood is totally consistent with the pursuit of sustainability and circular economy strategies as a design ethos and architect, Peter Wilson, will give delegates the insde track on the use of wood from a designers point of view. Stuart Goodall, CEO of Confor concludes the opening session by setting out the forestry strategy necessary to ensure home grown sources of wood for treatment continue to be readily available in the future.
The programme then focusses on key technical subjects such as the 30 year service life specification in BS8417 and the development of incising machinery in the UK. In this session we'll also get an inside track on the future for creosote as a wood preservative before turning the spotlight on the safety critical area of fire retardant treated wood and the WPA campaign for better UK enforcement of the Construction Products Regulations.
The afternoon sessions focus on wood protection quality initiatives and the role of the WPA in rising to the strategic challenges faced by our industry and the opportunities to grow demandd for wood and sheet materials that are performance enhanced by a wood protection process.
